Character Name: Ben Hanscom
Canon: It
Canon Point: It: Chapter One; Just after making a pact with the Losers.
In-Game Tattoo Placement: Right Palm. It's small, like someone wanted to spare him the pain of a tattoo even though it was a painless process.
Current Health/Status: Healthy with a few healing cuts on his belly and chest. A large cut in his left hand from making a pact. All wounds are healing.
Age: 13 (June 2ed, 1976)
Species: Human
Content Warnings: A general warning for the state of his town being a creepy place to live. Derry has a mix of racism, sexism, homophobia, violence, under age drinking and smoking, horror, body horror, abuse, hard bullying, and most horrible, clowns. It's the 80's and a shitty little town. For Ben himself he has a lot of being hardcore bullied issues.
History: About the film.
Steven King Wiki on Ben. I play mostly from the movies.
Personality:
To start, Ben is a loyal, tough but timid, intelligent young man who has a good heart. He's a bit of a bookworm who puts thought into his studies and someday will grow into an architect! He's a good round boy and became part of the softer side of the losers club.
Ben believes in being loyal to his friends. Loyalty is important to him because he's not used to having friends and fears losing them, so one has to stay loyal and just in the face of friends. It's a strong building block of friendship. That and being reliable and dependable. If one of the Losers needs something he'll gladly step up to help.
When faced with a moral problem he tries to go with the crowd, though he's not scared to put his foot down if that means standing up for what he believes is right. He wants to go with the groups choices, but if he believes strongly enough about something he will speak his mind, even if that means it's different than the rest of them.
He's as scared as any of the rest of them but also fearless in a way. When you've been alone for most of your life, teased and bullied, you grow braver in everyday things, but especially things that might hurt your friends. Friends are very important to him and he'd do anything for them, even face his own fears.
Speaking of fears, Ben has a few things that gets to him. While doing is research of Derry, It came to him in a form of a headless boy from the old photos in a book. When a headless body comes charging at you, you run. Later as an adult it's shown having Ben buried alive from a faulty wall in his own creation of a under ground fort. I like to play with the idea that somewhere in his mind he's scared of being buried alive, or perhaps it's just the idea that his architect designs aren't good enough. And most importantly, the idea of being alone again. It tends to harp on that one, mocking him for being alone and that no one wants to kiss the fat boy. Since getting friends of the Losers Club he's been happier. Less shy and less sheltered feeling. They bring the best out in him. The thought of losing them is a terrible one to him.
Just as much as the thought of his one true crush not liking him is devastating. It showed up to him as Beverly once, saying he was fat and disgusting. He was sure that she would never say such things, but even then it was hard to believe he was worth her time. When they made their pact at the end of the first movie, he walked away feeling alone and like a 3rd wheel to Bill who stayed behind with her. The things It said felt almost true. Why would she ever think of him that way.
For the idea of wrong or right, there is a bit of a grey area there. Some things can't be put down in exact colors of black or white. There are many shades of gray to wrong or right, though he feels he leans more to the shades of Right than anything else. A simple example: It's wrong to build a place under ground that might not be that stable, but he wants the Losers to be impressed with him (especially Bev). It's wrong to cuss but the boys do it a lot and though he tries not to, he will sometimes too. It's wrong to kill but in the case of It, it's the only right thing to do.
If faced with Henry, his main bully, in a place where he could bully back, he most likely wouldn't do it. A rock fight is one thing, and his hate for the bully is strong, but his moral compass wouldn't let him do more then name calling, and depending on the situation, maybe throw a punch. It all depends on how it's displayed to him. If the other was weak and pathetic, he'd show sympathy, or at least mercy. If the bully was fighting him, he'd fight back. This was shown when Henry was carving his name in the boys belly. Helpless to do much more then struggle and call for help, Ben does fight back, kicking the boy and escaping. If caught in a fight with him again he'd do it all over again.
Being the new kid to the town and school, Ben tended to hide in the library and do research. Ever since he moved to town he found something interesting about it, found some clues and did his research to look into all of it. That's how he found out about the 27 years of disappearances, accidents and issues. All the random things that happened every 27 years in this town. When the Losers took an interest in his research, he was a little leery at first to show them but then all too glad to take them to his room and his findings. He's a smart kid, bookwormish and cleaver.
Ben is a good kid deep down to his core. He'll give the shirt off his back to anyone in need of it and is willing to stand in front of a friend in a fight if it meant protecting them from being hurt. He's a major Loser in school but that just endeared him to the other kids of the Losers Club. He's still a kid, able to believe in fantasy and make-believe, while still staying rooted to reality.
He'll be arriving to Deerington right after walking away from making a pact with everyone in the Losers Club. He went home, cleaned his cut hand, wrapped it to hide it, and took a nap, waking up here.
Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping: Ben has no supernatural abilities displayed in the movies. He like all the kids can see the supernatural and horror filled things that It wants them to see where some normal adults cant. He's a smart boy who doesn't mind studying in a library and tends to get good grades. He knows how to take care of himself. Ben grows up to be an architect.

As the ground sank around his feet he found himself slowly coming to a stop, trying to pull his feet up and couldn't. The ground was still solid, yet not, almost seeping around his calves now. He felt himself tilt and start falling forward, grabbing hold of a fire hydrant near by. He used it to pull, puuuulllll, and ssshuk! His shoe came off and he could feel the dirt flood around his now socked foot.
No good. He was still being pulled under.
For a moment he had the damnedest thought, that his weight was the problem. Maybe the hydrant was leaking and making the ground here wet. This is what he gets for walking in a abandoned construction zone.
He pulled on the hydrant but the more he struggled the more he got pulled under. It was above his knees now. This couldn't be happening. He tried once more in vain to pull himself out of the muck, grunting as he pulled on the fire hydrant.
That's when the panic started to hit. He couldn't do this by himself. He needed help. He needed to call out to someone. "H-help?" He said weakly, feeling stupid for needing the help, but then screaming as it reached his middle. "HELP! Hello? Someone help!" He called out, hands starting to lose grip on the hydrant.
"Shit!" he cursed, which was rare for him, but this moment deserved it. His hands slipped from the red hydrant and he fell into the sucking ground with a splash of dirt being thrown up. None of it was wet, it felt dry and dirty as he slurped him up. Soon he was all arms and head above ground, eyes welling with tears from fear.
"Someone, please..." He gulped more to himself than calling out. He felt his hands grasp the old broken side walk and he held onto it like a life line. Fear deep seeded in his chest as the ground tightened and closed around him, putting pressure on his round body. He choked back the tears, screaming for help again.
No one is coming to help you, Ben You're alone. He heard something from the earth say, or was it his own creeping self doubt. He couldn't tell, but he clawed harder at the side walk, trying his hardest to pull himself out. "N-No! I'm N-not alone!" He corrected the voice, be it something else, It, or himself. He was not alone anymore. He pulled, nails breaking on the curb but he ignored that, ignored the pain to pull.
After a moment he got part of his chest out of the ground and--it all stopped. He was stuck, half buried in the earth and half out, but the sucking feel stopped. He gasped for air, holding onto the curb like his life depended on it, then called for help again. He was stuck and not moving. He might have to dig his way out, but he'd really appreciate some help Proof that he wasn't here alone.

Are you comfortable with prominent elements of fourth-walling?: Yes
What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: Elemental horrors, like landslides, fires, drowning, or a lack of air to name a few. I also love mental horrors like self doubt and how it's generally a humans biggest down fall. Give me anything with Cannibalism, decapitations, dismemberment, serial killers, crazy monsters that drip psycho drugs like acid, or just a few aliens. I really like to write all kinds of horror.
Is there anything in particular you absolutely need specific content warnings for?: None
